The Clancy Brothers were among the first to make the song popular in the early 1960s at the height of the folk revival.
The Dubliners also recorded a version featuring Luke Kelly on vocals.
Shane MacGowan and the Popes recorded The Rising of the Moon on their album, The Snake.
It also became a standard for The Wolfe Tones who feature the final verse, which is often omitted by other bands.
All these versions of The Rising of the Moon are sung to the same melody as The Wearing of the Green.
However, when the song was first written in 1865 it was also sung to another tune what was much slower and in a minor key. This version seems to have fallen out of use in Ireland but it is still used in recordings by some American performers.
Judy Collins is one of several artists who recorded the song using the alternative tune.
Peter, Paul and Mary also use the alternative melody but slow it down even further.
