One of the biggest celebrations of Irish music and culture is to take place in the middle of August in Cavan, Ireland.
Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann aims to establish high standards of traditional music.
It mainly features traditional music competitions but there are also concerts, parades, céilithe, street sessions and pageants. Competitions are held for all age groups from under 12s to seniors.
There are several instruments showcased at the festivals including fiddle, accordion, flute, whistle, concertina, uilleann pipes, harp, mouth organ, banjo, mandolin, piano, tin whistle, melodeon, bodhrán, war pipes and drums.
Week long festival
Musicians whose instruments are not listed above can enter the miscellaneous competition. This features instruments such as cello, bouzouki, viola, saxophone, hammer dulcimer and banjo mandolin and several more.
The week long festival is the biggest celebration of Irish culture in the world. It hopes to provide fun and entertainment for Irish music lovers of all ages. As well as the competitions and concerts there will be marching bands, singing, busking and art exhibitions on display.
There is no fee for a lot of the events and there are several stages around Cavan town that will be playing host to both experienced and up and coming performers. There should be something for all the family as events have been organised for children as well as adults.
