Well, we’ve got used to American presidents claiming to have Irish ancestry, especially when there’s an election round the corner.

And, of course, everyone is Irish on St Patrick’s Day.

Dublin wouldn’t be Dublin without an army of people from all over the world sampling a taste of the old country, especially the Guinness.

Yes, everyone wants to be Irish these days, including it seems – polar bears.

Irish singer Bob Geldof leads Live8

Synchronised finger clicks were used to represent the death of a child every three seconds, due to poverty.

Today is the 6th anniversary of Live8 when the world’s biggest music stars gave their time and performed in concerts in cities around the world. Cities included London, Philadelphia, Tokyo, Paris, Berlin, Johannesburg, Rome, Toronto, and Moscow.

The concerts were held to put pressure on world leaders, and to ’Make Poverty History’.

This March I had a tough choice to make – play our annual St. Patrick’s Day gig here in Ohio – always fun – or accept an invitation to the White House annual event. After several years of research and writing Celtic Revival? The Rise, Fall and Renewal of Global Ireland, this was an exciting invite so an easy choice. On meeting Glen Hansard, I jokingly told him “I gave up a good gig for this, so it had better be good!” Needless to say, it was.

Welcome Ireland’s new Musical World Champions

Ireland has a new set of world champions.

They are the weary but elated men, women and children who smashed the record for the Longest Traditional Music Session ever.

The event began last weekend when dozens of musicians gathered at O’Hanlons pub at Mullaghbawn in Armagh for a musical marathon.

The wanted to break the world record of 27 hours which had been set at Ennis in County Clare. They were hoping to set a new record by playing for 30 hours.
